With over 16 years of competition in events ranging from cross country 5Ks to the marathon, mountain bike racing to long course triathlon, and duathlon to adventure racing, Brent has a wide variety of experience and expertise to pass along to his athletes. A self professed “perfectionist” and “techno geek”, Brent’s attention to detail and belief in thorough preparation are what sets him apart. Nancy Schwarzer![]() Objective: To assist you with your fitness goals in a manner which allows you to balance all aspects of your life. For many—the goal is to win—for most, the goal is to finish. I believe in enjoying the entire triathlon experience from base training to finishing regardless of athletic ability. Only one person can “win” a race, but all races can be won if we take the time to enjoy the accomplishment of finishing what we start. I became a USAT Coach shortly after beginning my triathlon career, because I recognized the importance of coaches in all levels of triathlon. I can offer you on-line coaching, one-on-one coaching sessions and nutritional guidance. |

Mike Thompson![]() A lifelong resident of Charleston, South Carolina, Michael Thompson grew up on the water and has always been involved in sports with surfing, kayaking, swimming and skiing being his main focus. In the mid 1990s he discovered triathlon on a bet and rode a borrowed mountain bike and swam 700 yards with his head entirely out of the water. He was instantly hooked and quickly became a strong competitor. He has completed endurance events ranging from Sprint distance to Ironman triathlons as well as countless road races and marathons. In the majority of his races he has placed or won as an age groujper and as an elite athlete. Jim Urbec![]() Athletically, I always considered myself to be a runner first and also a cyclist. In light of that, I have completed numerous 10Ks, 10 milers, Criteriums, Cycle-cross races, half and full marathons. Everything changed in 1999, however, when our oldest son was diagnosed with leukemia. I found the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society s Team in Training and through them, I was able to channel my fears and worries into something positive. I signed on as a volunteer with TNT and completing a marathon as a team member and subsequent races as a mentor to new athletes. I was later nominated to be the marathon coach, a position I thoroughly enjoyed. TNT also introduced me to the joys of triathlon, and I soon found myself swimming at lunchtime and shopping for a new bike. Since then, I have competed in over 50 triathlons at all distances up to and including a half-ironman. My coaching philosophy is focused on helping the athlete balance their family and work responsibilities with their training goals. I want to help an athlete reach their goal, whether it is completing a race, beating a time, or qualifying for something bigger. I want to ensure that when they put their toes on the start line, they are prepared both mentally and physically for the race. There is an old Army saying: Blood and sweat spilled in training is blood and sweat that won t be spilled in combat. I believe that the civilian version of that saying is: Don t train one way and then race another way. I want to set my athletes up for success and help them achieve their personal athletic goals by showing them how to train effectively. |
